Wilshire Health and Community Services and Festival Mozaic screen 'Alive Inside' 

From Joan Jett’s rebellious sneer to George Jones’ iconic wail, music has influenced my life in more ways than I can count. As a banjo frailer and guitar shredder myself, I am stoked to give a shout-out to Alive Inside, a documentary that explores music’s capacity to reawaken our hearts and stir our souls.

Two venerable San Luis Obispo County nonprofit organizations, Wilshire Health and Community Services and Festival Mozaic, are collaborating to screen the documentary, a creation of filmmaker Michael Rossato-Bennett.

By collaborating on this film screening, the two organizations hope to promote the mission of Festival Mozaic by demonstrating the power music has to affect all lives, as well as promote the mission of Wilshire Health and Community Services by demonstrating the power of Wilshire Hospice’s One Voice Music Program, which provides live music experiences for patients facing end-of-life.

The screening will take place on June 28 at 1:30 p.m. at the Palm Theatre, 817 Palm St., downtown San Luis Obispo. Tickets may be pre-purchased for $12 by visiting www.wilshirehcs.org or purchased at the door for $15. A brief panel discussion featuring hospice Therapeutic Musician Chris O’Connell as well as other experts in aging and mental health will follow the film. For more information, call 547-7025, Ext. 25.
