Ever wondered how intricate mandalas or vibrant, detailed flowers are painted on silk pillows, robes, and more?
Well, wonder no more. The Morro Bay Art Association is hosting a silk painting demonstration by award-winning artist, Jackie Bradley.
The process begins by washing a portion of silk and stretching it between wooden bars. Then, the artist transfers a pencil drawing onto the fabric. Bradley uses a resist called “gutta” that will serve as a barrier to prevent colors from running into undesired areas. Bradley then begins to apply dye color. The end result is a beautiful work of art to wear or frame.
The demonstration is free to the public and will be held at the Art Center Morro Bay on July 11 from 3 to 5 p.m. Visit artcentermorrobay.com or call 772-2505 for more information.
