Sometimes, it’s just never enough. The money, the cars, the bling. Because a lack of shiny things reminds us that, well, we could lack even more. So we work and work to make sure we have all the things.
Through a series of videos, artist Nikhil Murthy wants to challenge perceptions of time, space, empathy, dignity, and antagonism through elements like politics, television, hip-hop, science, and economics.
His exhibit, Invisible Abundance, is currently on display at Cuesta College’s Harold J. Miossi Gallery.
“Four videos will play sequentially, one at a time, for a total of 22 minutes,” Murthy said. “The videos all have to do with the fear of and the economics of surplus, the monetary possibilities of a fiat currency, baroque fancy still life, soul and rap music, antagonism, and a fight against the work ethic.”
An opening reception is scheduled for July 8 from 4 to 7 p.m., with an artist talk at 5:30 p.m. Invisible Abundance will be on display through July 28. Admission is free. For more information, call 546-3202.
