Get Met! 

For the past two years, “The Met: Live in HD” series has been bringing live broadcasts from New York’s Metropolitan Opera to Cal Poly’s Performing Arts Center, allowing Central Coast residents to enjoy the works of Donizetti, Verdi, Wagner, Handel, and Mozart at bizarrely incongruous hours. (Thanks to the time difference, many of these productions start at 9 or 10 a.m. on the Central Coast.)

The new season starts Saturday, Oct. 13, with Donizetti’s comedy L’Elisir d’Amore, starting promptly at 9:55 a.m. Directed by Bartlett Sher, and conducted by Maurizio Benini, the new production stars Anna Netrebko as Adina and Matthew Polenzani as Nemorino.

Verdi’s Otello screens Saturday, Oct. 27, at 9:55 a.m., starring Johan Botha in the title role and soprano Renée Fleming as Desdemona. Conducted by Semyon Bychkov.

Adès’s The Tempest comes to the PAC on Saturday, Nov. 25, at 2 p.m. Composer Thomas Adès conducts this Met premiere of his own piece, directed by Robert Lepage. Baratone Simon Keenlyside stars as Prospero.

Verdi’s Aida screens Sunday, Dec. 30, at 2 p.m. Liudmyla Monastryrska stars as an enslaved Ethiopian princess who finds herself in a love triangle with the hero Radamès (Roberto Alagna) and the princess Amneris (Olga Borodina) in this Met production of an ancient Egyptian drama, conducted by Fabio Luisi.

Berlioz’s epic Les Troyens kicks off the New Year with a screening on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at 9 a.m. Deborah Voigt, Susan Graham, Marcello Giordani, and Dwayne Croft lead a strong cast playing characters from the Trojan War. Fabio Luisi conducts.

Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda, screening Saturday, Jan. 19, at 9:55 a.m., stars mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato in the role of Mary, Queen of Scots. Directed by David McVicar, Maria Stuarda captures the Tudors at their most fateful moments. Elza van den Heever stars as Elizabeth I in this dramatic work, conducted by Maurizio Benini.
