SLO Regional Rideshare and the Air Pollution Control District are encouraging local folks to reduce their carbon dioxide emissions by participating in a low-carbon diet, which entails carpooling, riding a bike, and walking or taking a bus instead of driving alone. Participants will be entered into a monthly drawing to win a $150 Visa card. According to program coordinator Lisa Quinn, mobile sources are the No. 1 cause of pollution in SLO County and have been linked to changing climate conditions. French Hospital Medical Center recently announced members of its Hearst Cancer Resource Center Advisory Committee, which includes cancer survivors and representatives of the medical and business community. The committee includes Tom Vendegna, M.D. Stephen Hearst Peaches Olson Alan Iftiniuk and Debby Nicklas, to name a few. The Hearst Cancer Resource Center is preparing for its grand opening in early spring 2008. The services provided are completely free for cancer patients and their families.
