John Donegan made an excellent point in his opinion piece last week (“Prosecuting Trump,” April 13). Democrats are too worried about justice and accountability, and not worried enough about what centrists think. Low-level felonies are just a normal part of presidential politics, and it’s enlightening to hear this from a retired attorney. When all the Democrats got together and voted to charge Trump with falsifying business records, I should have shown a little self-control, not wet my pants, and voted the other way. But for the crimes of inciting the Jan. 6 attacks, election fraud, wire fraud, colluding with Russia, and then obstructing the FBI’s investigation, etc., well, that’s another matter.

The “public” is surprised when a politician is found out as a lier and a cheater?
Now that “public service” is a high paying job
with voters checking off the name they know without paying close attention to what the individual behind the well known name that gathers in votes actually does
which is the name that once elected is re-elected again and again.
How could anything go wrong?
We should bemore surprised at the ones who are not liers and cheats since they are the rarity.
Mr Donegan, I don’t watch alternate news sources and really don’t understand your reply to Mr Diaz’s letter. Does your sources say that President Biden under suspicion or investigation of criminal activity? Or is there some kind of coverup ? We saw first hand what a corrupt A.G. can do to protect a president when Mr Barr was appointed to replace a less corrupt Mr Sessions. Please be a little more specific. I only get my information from reputable news sources and I am not up to date with the latest “fair and balanced” news.

In what world, John? Joe Biden has been in the public eye for more than 50 years and there have been very few allegations against him. A mentally deranged woman had a claim against him. Nothing was found. Donald Trump controlled Justice for four years and could never come up with anything, just vague allegations about profits from Ukraine and China—in fact, he was impeached for attempting to blackmail the president of Ukraine about the issue.
As a public figure, Mr. Biden has consistently provided his tax returns. NOTHING, NADA. ZERO. On the other hand, your hero Trump has blocked his tax returns and when they were released, they showed that he provided all sorts of false information, not only about Stormy Daniels, but also about the appraisal of his property.
Although the DA in NY waived the handcuffs, Mr. Trump was made to do the perp walk and answer the questions of a judge as the defendant in a criminal hearing. Biden will NEVER be in that position. Disagree all you want with Biden’s policies, but he is not a criminal, unlike “your boy” Trump.
Bob & Mike: Joe has never struck anybody as an especially “ethically squeamish” politician, but more of the old school
blustering political fixer type. The Hunter Biden laptop is still being explored by the FBI, and despite your intinctive dismissals and having the assistance of the establishment media in stopping the investigation, it may yield some pretty damaging information on Joe and the Biden family. For example, I understand that there was a roughly $1M payment from a Chinese business to the widow of Biden’s deceased son. Why? Was this money reported as income? Were proper business records kept? As we saw from Joe and Hunters activities in Ukraine there have been plenty of people and businesses who want to buy influence, and with the new hyper-sensitivity to matters like book keeping, there are likely to be legal violations to be explored, and perhaps punished. Joe has spent almost all of his life in government service, and yet is quite wealthy. Let’s take a look at how that happened!
