For two weekends in October, 200 artists participated in the Open Studios Art Tour in San Luis Obispo County, one of the largest in the U.S., by opening their studios to visitors. All this was magically organized by Angela Tahti, executive director; Lori Lerian, program director; and, Raven McDaniel, program specialist of ArtsObispo. Their raison d’etre is to advance the arts in our county, and what a great job they do! Extraordinary, nearly superhuman efforts are made by all the participating artists who spend a year making art and getting ready for the tour.
The art tour has become a local favorite, and thousands of visitors from around California come specifically to participate. Services, lodging facilities, restaurants, and retailers all benefitted. What a win for all! These efforts add such positives to our Central Coast lifestyle it’s no wonder we’re one of the “happiest places on earth.”
My heartfelt appreciation to all the generous people who support and promote our art community, to all those who helped the artists during the tour, and to those who discovered and purchased new artwork—may you treasure it for years.
