Get out to Cuesta to hear some music 

In a world that we all know can get ugly fast, it is a pleasure to be witness to a moment of human, connective perfection. The musical camaraderie (harmony?) of the Cuesta faculty at a recent Friday concert was just that. The simultaneous smiles of these paramount players (and instructors) signified their mutual respect and close confidence in one another as fine performers.

We are blessed to live in an area that provides us not only the finest music in all genres anywhere, but a place that attracts and nurtures such talent. If you haven’t seen a performance at the new Cuesta Performing Arts Center, you will be treated to an acoustically stellar experience. It is an intimate theater of 400 seats, and the sound quality is exceptional. The ticket prices are below current movie ticket prices, and the rewards are greater.

Having been a fly on the wall for many a year at Cuesta, I have the utmost respect for the staff and faculty who demonstrate true caring and involvement with those budding musicians. The buzz is overwhelming at times, but always positive. Despite the financial cutbacks, the music program is a well-oiled machine that churns out young players equipped with new knowledge and enthusiasm, players who can potentially make a difference in a world that could use some musical civility and excellence. Hopefully, a handful will return here one day to complete the circle of giving.
