Why, hello there, readers of mine! D’ya know what next week is? That’s right! It’s Valentine’s Day! Looking for some nice places to take that special someone? Looking for some nice places to avoid the concept of a special someone? Looking for some not-so-nice places? Why are you looking for those? Do you have a problem?

If I asked you to put “theatrical production” and “Valentine’s Day” together, your first thought might be Shakespeare’s almighty Romeo and Juliet, the play that couldn’t decide if it was one of his comedies or his tragedies, and so decided “Why not both?” By order of the Prince, however, there is to be no more strife on public streets, so instead, why not check out another play that doubtless involves some manner of public strife? pool’63, if you haven’t already heard of it, was a Cuesta College theatre production from last semester dealing with the topic of the civil rights movement of the ’60s in Birmingham, Ala. The production was wildly successful, leading it to being summoned to a festival that only a couple of schools received such an honor from, and has been brought back to Cuesta for a second run!

I have mentioned this play before, but I have been informed by a Cuesta news release that at some point incorrect dates the production is showing had been advertised, so in case you had been planning for a day that wasn’t actually one of them (or hadn’t heard of the play in the first place), I’m setting them here, afresh.

You can enjoy the production on Friday, Feb. 7, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 8, at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, Feb. 9, at 2 p.m.; Thursday, Feb. 20, at 7:30 p.m.; or Sunday, Feb. 23, at either its 2 p.m. showing or its 7:30 p.m. showing. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students, and $5 for children, and can be purchased at cpactickets.cuesta.edu. Be warned, however, I have it from the director of the play herself that they are selling out fast, so you really might want to get on that if you’re interested. However you end up spending your next few days, I hope they’re great, and I hope to see you back here next week!
