Ah … early June … Nothing quite compares to that magical feeling of scholarly deadlines approaching.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year … with the migraines a-swelling and frustrated yelling and running in fear! It’s the most wonderful time of the year! It’s the hap-happiest season of all … with the teacher-entreatings and don’t-get-caught-cheatings and …

My boss just threatened to throw a desk at me if I kept singing, but you get the general idea. Cuesta students, who are breathing easy right now, had better abuse their solitary freedoms ASAP because soon, the Mustangs will turn the final corner and leap out of the track.
The beaches won’t stay slightly less crowded for long!

Seeing as the beloved Mustangs are without any doubt studying their hardest right now (*wink* *wink* *nudge* *nudge*), I’m not sure how much good it would do for me to mention an awesome concert by some of their own peers—but people have cared less than I do, and, not wanting to be upstaged, I’m going to mention it anyway.

And what a concert! On June 2, the Cal Poly Wind Orchestra and Wind Ensemble will present their Spring Concert, chock full of pieces sporting a 21st-century theme. And let’s face it, who wouldn’t want to hear an orchestral movement inspired by a battle between the Man of Steel himself, Superman, and villain Bizarro? Michael Daugherty’s “Red Cape Tango,” from his Metropolis symphony, is just that. And the fandom rejoiced! Audience members can also look forward to a three-movement piece about Scotland’s Jacobite Rebellion, and a heck of a lot more. Tickets cost $12 or $14 general admission, $10 or $12 admission for seniors, and $8 or $10 admission for students.

Also, for the heck of it, Cougars, why not go check out the various crazy-awesome senior projects that your friendly neighborhood Mustangs labored over? You don’t have to be Wallace and Gromit to like inventions—just check out the various festivities all over Cal Poly Campus from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 31. Displays will be located at Bonderson Projects Center (Building 197), the Advanced Technology Lab (Building 7), Engineering IV (Building 192), and the Engineering Plaza between the buildings. Your attendance will mean a lot to the hard-working students, and you’ll no doubt be very impressed with what you find!

Well, good luck with those finals, Mustangs. You will be able to Zerg-rush beach-going Cuesta students soon enough.
