ZOCKER 2009 RIESLING EDNA VALLEY PARAGON VINEYARD

A “SIP” wine, which means it’s certified sustainably grown, is always an indication of quality. The name means “gambler” in Austria, and Zocker is devoted to Gruner Veltliner and Riesling. Owned by the Niven Family Wine Estates, it was named so because they aren’t popular varieties in the U.S. But if you love Riesling, this is one you’ll want in your wine cellar. This delicious, elegant white offers notes of minerality highlighted by nuances of nectarine, melon, and delicate Meyer lemon notes. Riesling is considered the queen of white wines because it’s so versatile with food. Try it with shrimp or crab salads, Chinese chicken salads, stir-fries, or with smoked white fish. Reasonably priced at $20 retail for its quality, you’ll find it in local restaurants, and at the Baileyana tasting room on Orcutt Road in Edna Valley.
