The Oceano of the future has a vibrant downtown. Cars slow when passing an attractive sign that welcomes visitors to Oceano Beach. A tree-lined plaza and wide sidewalks dotted with planters and benches invite strollers to linger. Paths with clear crosswalks provide safe access to the nearby beach. After dark, streetlights cast a cheery glow over visitors drawn to the town’s busy restaurants and shops. Each week, a farmers’ market west of Highway 1 hosts vendors and artists from South County and beyond.

That’s part of the vision of the Oceano Revitalization Plan, completed in July 2013 with input from local residents. But as I explore the unincorporated community where I recently bought a house, I don’t see any of its recommendations brought to life. Oceano continues to look like a dumpy town best seen from the window of a passing car en route to more inviting Pismo Beach.

The office of the current District 4 supervisor, Lynn Compton, offered only hand-waving for the foot-dragging. We need someone who listens to the needs of the people and wants to make Oceano Beach a destination instead of a drive-by. We need to elect Jimmy Paulding as our District 4 Supervisor.

  1. There is no need to talk bad about other candidates or Board Members when there is so much GOOD to talk about when it comes to aspiring Board of Supervisors member Jimmy Paulding.

Whether you live in the Fourth District or not, the best solution to the problem with our Board is to be part of the REPUBLICAN/DEMOCRATIC coalition in support of Jimmy Paulding for County Supervisor. Paulding has the common sense, integrity and RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE that will give the Board the type of balance and feet-on-the-ground TALENT it needs at this crucial time.

You don’t have to take my word for it. Do the research. Meet the man. Paulding is the type of person that will promote a fresh and productive sense of unity on the Board and in our community at a time when it is needed more than ever.

  2. I dont think it is “bad” to express disappointment or frustration that the current 4th District Supervisor has done very LITTLE for Oceano.

I very much agree with “rightword2” that Mr. Paulding would be a fantastic Supervisor for the 4th District AND for the County as a whole

  3. it is not about who is elected Supervisor.
It is about what the residents demand and do with the cooperation of the business owners.
Do it instead of asking that it be done.
if it is to be, it is up to thee.

As for the election – I will be voting NOTA [None of the Above] because there is no candidate for any local office that does not support something or oppose something against the welfare of our communities.
