Do you love the 1987 film Dirty Dancing? Because on Thursday, Jan. 29 (7:30 p.m.; ages 5-and-older; $42 to $97 at pacslo.org), at the Performing Arts Center San Luis Obispo, you can watch the digitally remastered film while a live band and singers perform in sync to every song.
Set in a Catskills resort in the summer of 1963, the film follows Frances “Baby” Houseman (Jennifer Grey) on vacation with her family as she falls in love with the resort’s handsome dance instructor, Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze). The film manages to deliver a potent romance and coming-of-age story but also pack in social issues like class divide and female empowerment all set to a wicked good soundtrack.
“Feel the romance, rhythm, and emotion as you watch Baby and Johnny’s love story come to life on a full-size cinema screen, with every iconic moment amplified by the power of live music,” organizers announced. “After the final scene, the fun keeps going with a dance-along encore party that invites you to celebrate the music that made history. Whether you’re a longtime fan or experiencing it for the first time, this is your chance to relive the time of your life, because some dances last forever.” ∆
