Jim Patterson’s opponent, Debbie Arnold, says she doesn’t buy smart growth guidelines, but does buy urbanization of rural lands by infrastructure expansion, and that the “development community” is “buying” her “vision for the county” (Tribune, May 2). They want to socialize the costs of sprawl on the backs of tax and rate payers and privatize the profits of developers and speculators.

This dumb-growth con job was rejected four years ago when voters elected Patterson over Arnold’s prior boss, Mike Ryan. Fiscal and ecological conservatives won’t fall for it again.

If Arnold gets elected, you’d better watch your wallet. Her gang of pickpockets will take you to the cleaners and laugh all the way to the bank. If Patterson gets elected, rational husbandry of our economic and natural resources will continue. Don’t get duped. Don’t be a loser. Win with Jim (www.winwithjim.org).
