One hundred eighty-seven minutes.

That’s how long Trump knowingly failed to act while his armed supporters stormed our nation’s Capitol. Instead, he watched the violence unfold on cable news, and even sent messages of encouragement by social media, telling the insurrectionists that he “loved” them.

This is one of many disturbing details in the most recent indictment against Trump, where he was charged with four federal criminal counts, including conspiracy to defraud our country in an unprecedented attempt to remain in power.

According to the indictment, Trump deliberately lied about voter fraud, then used those lies to try to pressure local officials to illegally overturn election results and create a fake slate of electors. He then pressured Vice President Mike Pence to toss out the legitimate results and count the fake electoral votes instead.

When all that failed, the Jan. 6 insurrection was Trump’s last desperate attempt to cling to power. Elected officials and law enforcement officers were attacked, simply for doing their jobs—acting on the will of the people and certifying the election results. It was violent, destructive, and in some cases, fatal.

There can be no more serious crime than a conspiracy to overturn the foundation of our democracy itself: the vote of the American people. Fame, fortune, and former office cannot and should not prevent someone from standing trial and being held accountable for their crimes.

  1. Trump needs to be held accountable of course, but more than that he needs to defect to Russia, have a disabling stroke or fatal heart attack.

  2. And, let’s hold Joe Biden accountable as well. How do you think that someone like Hunter Biden, thrown out of the military for drug addiction and in the throes of a crack habit, could accumulate millions without the help of his vice-president father? After first denying that he ever met Hunter’s business partners, Joe now allows how he engaged in conference calls with them, but only discussed the weather. Sure. Father and son just happened to include business associates in their frequent family conversations about the weather. And Burisma paid Hunter over $50,000 per month with no expectation of obtaining influence over US policy. Yes, criminals should be held accountable.

  3. ” let’s hold Joe Biden accountable”

I wish you’d write about that rather than your continuous drivel about transgender individuals. Of course you won’t, simply because there is ZERO evidence that Joe Biden was involved in any of his son’s misdeeds. Recent testimony from Devon Archer, Hunter Biden’s business partner, directly negates much of the Fox News narrative about the president accepting bribes or any money in Hunter’s deals. As we’ve seen in the Dominion case, telling lies is the corporate motto over at Fox.

  4. Mr. Donegan’s response is a bit predictable. Almost a knee-jerk reaction. How about we let the courts play out on Hunter and just see where it ends up without using his case to deflect questions about a former President /career criminal who has gamed the system for decades. Hunter’s case is simple. Now that they’ve assigned a Special Council to further investigate him, he may not end up with the sweetheart deal he’d hope to receive. If that happens, so be it. On the other hand Trump tried everything in his power to reverse the legitimate results of Presidential election and he’s left a trail of devastation in his path; understand just how many individuals have either died or are in prison or are likely heading to prison, or have had their lives ruined due to actions taken and claims made solely by Trump. The list is long. Bari St. James comments reflect an opinion that is shared by probably 100 million people in this Country, including millions of Republicans who just want their Party back. All of us collectively want to turn the page on this ego-maniacal idiot who left an ugly stamp on U.S. history. Let’s just hope the end comes sooner than later.

  5. Mike: “Zero evidence”? You have convicted Trump of various transgressions on far less substantive evidence. You seem to believe that by dismissively characterizing the charges against Biden as “debunked” is somehow conclusive, and no further scrutiny need be paid because you think it unworthy of your attention. Still, most of us wonder how a career politician like Joe, and a drug-addicted Hunter, got so rich without legitimate endeavors to explain their prosperity? We see Joe’s bragging about getting the prosecutor fired who was investigating the company paying an unqualified Hunter $50,000 per month, as pretty evidentiary. We also see the millions wired from China to Biden family members, as well as Joe’s abandoned claim that he never met with Hunter’s dodgy business associates, now revised to claim that, well, maybe he spoke with them but only about the weather, all as pretty indicative of corrupt activity. It will be fun to see where this leads. Maybe Joe and Trump can share a cell.

I am sorry if I belabor the transgender issue. It is just that the gender campaign is just so ubiquitous and relentless, and we are directed to accept such increasing bizarre fictions, that is is hard to stay away from it. How about a deal? If you people give up this silly campaign, I’ll shut up.

  6. ZERO evidence, John. The Republicans have investigated Hunter Biden for five years now and they still have found no link between his deals and his father. If the Biden’s have so much money, where is it? Unlike Trump, Joe Biden has released several years of his tax returns. Last year he and his wife made about $575k for which they paid $137k. So where are all these millions he’s supposed to have? He has made money for decades through his real estate portfolio but not the millions he’s been accused of having. I’m sorry, John, but you’ve been watching too much Hannity.

  7. “Zero evidence” and “where’s the money”? Well, you should be aware that it is pretty easy to hide immense amounts of money off shore in corporate accounts, so that tracing is difficult. Putin and his oligarch buddies are quite good at it. And, of course, Joe was shown to have maintained a joint account with Hunter, and the Biden family members received millions from Chinese business interests. If the fact that bribe money isn’t shown as income on Joe’s taxes is convincing, I am sure that you will also accept Trump’s returns at face value, without question. Sorry, Mike, but you’ve been watching too much Maddow.

  8. Oh sure, Biden has offshore accounts with billions of dollars and no one knows about it. He has had all that money for decades.

He uses that money for his gambling addiction. Hes known to put $220,000 on one bet. Oh wait, thats Phil Mickelson, a good Republican.

Ever listen to yourself, John? Most of it makes no sense. There is ZERO evidence of what you say. If youre so sure, give me some sources that document that Joe Biden took money from foreign nations. Ill even take Fox or Britebart. They obviously have opinions, but ZERO evidence.

The thing we found about Trump from his taxes is that he was a colossal failure as a businessman. And I do take them at face value. Hes never been as rich as hes put on and he constantly loses money so he pays little in taxes. All true.

  9. I am sure that Putin tells the people of Russia that he doesn’t have any hidden assets, as well. Most are probably skeptical. Why shouldn’t we be skeptical about Joe Biden’s denials?

  10. I guess you have ZERO evidence.

Putin has no scrutiny. His country doesn’t have a free press. We do. Biden has been a public figure his entire life. There is absolutely ZERO evidence that he ever took any money that he was not entitled to. Trump was in control of the DOJ for four years…crickets.

Obviously his son is a different story. You might say that Biden wasn’t a good parent, but you cannot say he’s ever been involved in bribery or taking illegal money.

You were asked for evidence from any website. You have provided none. Enough said.

So, carry on with your Trans and Gay bashing. I could care less.

  11. How vigilant is our press? As you may recall, they dismissed Hunter Biden’s laptop as “Russian disinformation” on no stronger basis than it was embarrassing to their favored candidate. It has since been shown to be legitimate. And, of course, the media campaign to discredit the lab origin theory of Covid, on no credible scientific grounds, other than its association with Trump. Biden since found it worthy of an investigation, and the FBI found it to be likely with “moderate confidence”. A media which is so eager to lie and distort the news is not any more trustworthy that Putin’s Russian press.
