I’d like Americans born from roughly the mid 1940s to 1960 to take a good look around (if possible) and from the perspective that you will soon leave this world in a state of condition that your parents would be horrified to see.
Is this what the survivors of the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl, and WWII taught you? They survived multiple calamities collectively, not individually. From city dwellers blocking the entrances of foreclosed brownstones, preventing homeowners being thrown into the street, to farmers and neighbors nullifying the auctions of mortgagees’ farms by either staying silent or bidding no more than $2.
We now have armies of you falling over each other just to engage in bidding wars on the property of the victims of the economic policies your peers created. If you don’t think the general public sees this, you are severely deluded. We are waiting for you all to simply go away and never come back.

Thank you for elaborating on how we all actually feel. We are literally waiting for them to die off so we can get some housing.
You would hate on an entire generation? Many of us fought for your right to vote, marry whom you love, have your own credit if you are a woman, have your developmentally delayed child participate in society, etc. Many of these rights are being taken away, even by younger generations (millennial gamers on fascist forums and Gen Z tech bros.) Are you willing to get shot at protesting in the streets like us to preserve your freedoms?
Hey Shanti. I hear your angst and your passion on the subject, especially concerning housing. Though I too suggest you don’t perhaps lump your anger so broadly.
Unfortunately, there will never be an even playing field in the buying and selling of real estate as long as a seller can list a selling price, but not accept viable offers for that price. Until we legislate remedies, the destabilization of the real estate market will continue,and bleed into many other aspects of our society.
It is in our nature to get as much as we can, and leaving the individual to regulate themselves, to make good choices for society as a whole, is not a good or reasonable model for many issues like this.
Witness the failed experiment of the last 4 decades called “trickle-down economics”, which relied on the better nature of corporate America to save us.
Altruism isn’t out default, and it seems to be less our default than ever…
So the success of the Greatest Generation in surviving the Great Depression and dust bowl, and defeating fascism, wasn’t due to bravery, hard work, and toughness, but to militance in resisting the payment of debts? What sort of history are they teaching in schools these days?
JD: I disagree with Brokaw and believe the Greatest Generation were the ones that voted FDR in four times. They sacrificed their lives fighting for decent working conditions and a strong middle class. The Boomer generation thrived on FDR’s legacy, but after 43 years of neoliberalism, we are back to the injustice and brutality that characterized the wealth inequality of the 1920s.
My apologies but it is time for older generation to be gone they have made terrible decisions for the world and other states like Mexico ,that generation is nothing like new generation and everyone I hope would agree on this but the government has nothing but lies and has brainwashed everyone around the world that’s why we all have ss# to control population and everything else we do ,you know what’s funny is it’s not about just housing but the fact that the government has cures for cancer or AIDS or any other disease and wants us to pay for it with!!! That’s weird ASF to make us all have to suffer or to be a slave to get what we want old generation and your lies with wars and everything else you should all be ashamed of yourselves cause open up your eyes we are born to die so stop all this brainwashed control you do !!!!
