The Tribune’s endorsements for SLO mayor and City Council were predictable but less than straightforward. Though not stated, all those favored are supporters of the Marketplace development. The candidates rejected by the Tribune oppose it — along with a sizable proportion of citizens. If the Bird-Dalidio big-box scheme proceeds, future advertising inserts accompanying the Tribune’s recommendations can be expected to double their present 2 1/2-pound weight of paper and ink.
