In his recent New Times letter “Partisan politics have infected this county” (Feb. 2), Laurance Shindeman’s citation of Judge Judy’s book Don’t Pee on My Leg and Tell Me It’s Raining was a cute device. Alas, it was Laurance’s blatant partisanship that was on full display in confirming his own hypocritical bent. With his words, Shindeman peed on his own leg.
His tiresome rant against the SLO County Board of Supervisors majority is now the constant refrain of his highly partisan campaign to return Supervisor Adam Hill to majority control of the county by advocating the election of Hill’s hand-picked opponent to Supervisor Lynn Compton—Jimmy Paulding. Unfortunately, Jimmy’s made the mistake of accepting Hill’s support.
Electing Paulding to “take the partisan out of politics”? Please!
Then came Dan Cook’s response to Shindeman’s piece. Whining about the board denying Hill his coveted position as board’s chairman, thereby depriving his constituents of “fair representation before the board”? Give me a break!
Do you guys actually believe what you are writing? What are you smoking?
No one was more responsible for his and his constituents’ demise than Hill himself. His boorish behavior and his studied, deliberate alienation of the votes he needed from the board was a self-inflicted wound—the same wound that his voters did to themselves by electing Hill to the board.
Yes, it’s true. It’s Shindeman’s brand of partisan politics and hypocrisy that have infected this county via the unprincipled, single-minded campaign being waged against Compton.

Jimmy Paulding deserves the support of ALL current Members of the board of supervisors: Compton, Hill, Gibson, Peschong and Arnold. They all agree that Paulding is the most formidable and competent candidate running for the board in decades. If they care about the folks in San Luis Obispo County they will all join the Countywide Republican/Democratic coalition in support Jimmy Paulding for supervisor. Good change is good!
Jimmy Paulding is highly qualified, with real world experience in managing a variety of projects. South County – District 4 residents are lucky to be getting him.
One of the reasons Jim Pauldings campaign is running so strong and popular is because Adam Hill’s opponents AND his supporters BOTH have so many good reasons to support Paulding in his run for County Supervisor in the Fourth District.. Whether Hill stays or goes, Paulding will play a vital role in bringing order, fairness, decorum and progress to the board. If there is anyone who can inspire Hill and others to shape up it is Paulding.
People of all political persuasions throughout SLO County are sick and tired of the Trump-toned, divisive and miselading rhetoric that has infected so much political dialog on the Central Coast in the last few years. . These days voters are looking for smart, well-qualified and fair-minded candidates who will help bring out community together regardless of individual political party affiliation. Isn’t that the way it should be when it comes to local government?
Do the research. Meet the man. Find out why each and every member of the current San Luis Obispo Board of Supervisors, both Republicans and Democrats, c consider Jim Paulding the most prepared, qualified, formidable and POPULAR candidate mounting a challenge to an incumbent board member. The sentiment is unprecedented. Ask Lynn Compton, ask Debbie Arnold, ask Adam Hill, ask Gibson, ask Peschong and you will sense the respect they each hold for Jim Paulding. Only their own self-interest holds them back from being active, out-spoken supporters of the Paulding candidacy. But they all can agree Paulding is a force to be reckoned wit h.
Bottom line: Paulding is the type of candidate that will best serve county residents regardless of political party. Find out for yourself. Meet the man. He’s accessible and has a message that is resonating strongly on the Central Coast. That’s a VERY GOOD thing at this crucial time.
