Ethan Chapin, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Madison Mogen were Idaho State students whose lives were cut short by a Washington State student in 2022 in an off-campus home while they slept. This series blends memories shared from those who loved them most, heartbreaking footage from first responders, and interviews with the perpetrator’s fellow students that offer more insight into what was lost that day.
Frustratingly, no one has a real answer for why these four were targeted, and while the killer’s now appealing, he pled guilty before having to stand trial, leaving family and friends of the victims without answers.

Netflix has found a true crime niche, and I’m as guilty as any of consuming more than my fair share. I do think that the awareness on how to avoid sensationalizing violent crimes has grown as more shows are created. I hope being a part of this series was a cathartic and healing process for those suffering the loss of these bright-futured young men and women who were robbed of the chance to see those futures through.
