Hey everyone, San Luis Obispo County is finally famous, again!
But it’s not for wine, beautiful beaches, and outdoor recreational opportunities. It’s not for being the home of the Happiest Place in America. Although, we might get tagged as the Grumpiest Place in America, if you listen to the disgruntled members of the Republican Party of San Luis Obispo (RPSLO) who happen to own a majority of members on the county Board of Supervisors—although you wouldn’t know it by the level of whining coming out of their mouths.
And it’s not even District Attorney Dan Dow‘s crusade against police-brutality protesters, Tianna Arata‘s freeway protest court case, or the attorneys involved in that case accusing every member of local law enforcement of being a white supremacist. But it is associated with ex-President Donald “I’ve been canceled” Trump.
Yay! I love being famous!
This county got a shoutout on The Rachel Maddow Show “for the dumbest reason,” as the SLO Street Medics put on their Instagram story. “Keeping it classy SLO County.”
Is it because some ignoramus called into the SLO County Board of Supervisors May 4 and asked SLO County Clerk-Recorder Tommy Gong if he had a relationship with the Chinese Communist Party? Yes. At least this county’s right-wing nutters can no longer claim they aren’t actually racist. Because that shit was on the record for all to hear! Gotcha!
But that was just the icing on the conspiracist idiot cake. Really, Maddow’s targets were the hundreds of “residents” who called in to that meeting to suddenly question the integrity of the local 2020 election and the top election official.
And so there our little county was, showcased after segments on the Israeli/Palestinian conflict and unwanted hysterectomies at an ICE facility. SLO County had the distinct honor of taking its place right in the middle of a segment about Republican Party antics in Maricopa County, Arizona, over the 2020 election—you know, the disjointed and unprofessional “fake audit clown show,” as Maddow put it. #Proud.
But our fame started with a Washington Post article in which both Gong and RPSLO Chair Randall Jordan were interviewed about the hours of phone calls in to the supervisors meeting. Move over, Danny boy! Our district attorney’s 15 minutes of national fame over his anti-protest antics are apparently over. Thank God. And yes, I’m talking to his god.
Gong told The Post that he’d never heard of a “forensic audit” when it came to elections—but apparently a few dozen extremely “well” informed callers knew more than the 15-year elections veteran, because they all repeated it verbatim, alongside several other statements they parroted from a group called Election Integrity Project California. Jordan has apparently ingratiated himself to this so-called integrity project even though he doesn’t actually believe that any fraud took place during the 2020 election. What?!
He told New Times as much right after the November election and repeated his belief in non-fraud to The Post for its May 19 story. WTF Randall? Get your disciples in line up there! Don’t cave to the crazies (even though I would argue that you might actually be borderline). His connection with the “integrity” project is pure: He wants to restore faith in elections, he told The Post.
“He said he does not believe the 2020 vote was rigged, but thinks it is essential to restore faith among those who believe voting is a ‘waste of time’ because of reports of fraud,” The Post stated.
No! Leave them to their non-faith. Keep them in a vegetative state on their couch in front of Fox News and Trump TV! They are sheeple. (See what I did there?) Plus, I want my American flag back.
“The public has the right to ask for fair and honest elections and not take the word of our officials who have lied to us in the past,” he told them.
Oh, you mean like Trump?! Lol, Randall. The irony is dripping off the cardboard cutouts of Trump and his family proudly displayed in RPSLO’s Atascadero headquarters.
It’s also ironic how much the conservative members of the Board of Supervisors want to ask the state to limit future elections, when they also lost their marbles over the Integrated Waste Management Authority (IWMA) daring to prohibit Styrofoam in the county.
The Republican-owned supes are throwing a conniption fit because their attempt to thwart the already-passed ordinance from becoming a reality was itself thwarted. Thanks to one smarty-pants lawyer, SLO City Councilmember Jan Marx, who also serves on the IWMA board and can read the fine print, they are threatening to get rid of the IWMA by claiming that it’s too much government! #Adulttempertantrum.
So people like 5th District Supervisor Debbie Arnold are all about dismantling the agency—which oversees and coordinates waste collection in cities and the county—because it’s “big” government imposing Styrofoam bans on cities that don’t want it. Yet, she is the very same government official who basically cajoled the board into creating a new body to try to impose her will on almost all of North County when it comes to water because of a conspiracy theory about water pirates stealing groundwater and selling it to the highest bidder.

As we see with this latest non-sensical article, the so-called Shredder cannot even keep his own word to not politicize everything one week, and the attacks on those who seek honest elections are both disingenuous and anti-democratic. I believe people ON BOTH SIDES ought to believe in free and fair elections, and the integrity of the ballot box is fundamental to our democracy.
To retain credibility, The Shredder must end the flip-flopping, and SLO readers deserve a paper that reflects journalistic integrity. How about a story on the far left whacky Cal Poly faculty that recently criticized a police presence in our town? How about a story on why the A.G. city council, under failed mayor Caren Ray Rossum, is now going to fly the Rainbow Flag despite the fact that that flag is controversial and not universally accepted? How about a story on the taxpayer money wasted on payouts to Adam Hill and Bruce Gibsons lovers who they put on the taxpayer-funded payroll? Why cover up political corruption?
Get it? The Shredder ought to play it both ways, and then moderates and conservatives could respect the SLO New Times and its editorial board. To continue the sharp political attacks only means the New Times is relegated to being a commi rag into the third decade of the 21st century, and that is sad.

Not taking sides, but can anyone tell me why an audit of an election, or of a balance sheet, or of a government agency, is frightening? Personally, I like the concept of auditing things which may be important, and wonder why either party would be upset at the concept of auditing information of any kind. If one has followed the Maricopa County extravaganza of lawsuits and protests, over something as simple as an “audit,” one might believe that one party is actually fearful of the results.
People like “Steve Edwards” are a literal representation of what the SLO County GOP has become: a fraud.
According to two current and one former member of the SLO County GOP, board chair Randall Jordan (with Technical Director Laura Mordaunt’s assistance) encouraged membership and leadership to create fake accounts and spread propaganda through social media. And some of that propaganda includes not only the Big Lie but also false claims and conspiracy theories made exclusively by CalCoastNews. And the SLO County GOP works closely with CalCoastNews as one of their website’s advertisers. Their staff have made various appearances at GOP and North County Tea Party meetings while actively coordinating with them to manufacture community outrage. Why? CalCoastNews benefits by garnering page impressions and clicks through their Google AdSense ads with sensationalized, race-baiting clickbait and the GOP is able to amplify their propaganda on various social media channels.
If someone told me Randall Jordan is, in fact, “Steve Edwards,” I would hardly be surprised.

In fact, since you brought it up, per state law, a multiparty audit board performed a hand-count audit of Maricopa County starting the Saturday after the election. It finished 2 days later and didn’t find a single discrepancy.
In addition, the majority-Republican Maricopa County Board of Supervisors hired two separate, independent firms to perform a forensic audit of the voting equipment used. The audit found no irregularities.
Are these audits above the ones you’re referring to or would it happen to be the one that looks very much like a partisan inquisition currently being performed by a small private company called Cyber Ninjas, which happens to be owned by an advocate of “Stop the Steal”? Sighhh… Clearly the best example of confirmation bias I’ve ever seen in my life.
I hope the whacky Alt. Left Pseudo-Progressive liberal Democrats can come to their senses.
Just today, a DEMOCRAT politician, Rep. Dean Phillips, congressman from Minnesota, criticized the whacky far left in HIS OWN PARTY, his remarks admitted that those ins OWN PARTY are purposefully inciting hatred and division in our country.

Here’s a fun tidbit.
According to my sources in the SLO County GOP, their political director Andrea Seastrand uses a number of fake accounts (“just the facts” is one username they cited) to send out political propaganda and disinformation on social media and various websites. And when they’re challenged, they’re reportedly instructed to assassinate the character of the person challenging them. The purpose behind this activity is not only get their message out by surreptitious means and incite contempt but also motivate potential voters to register as Republicans. That’s why you see a lot of these fake accounts make proclamations like “Vote Republican!”
The current incarnation of the SLO County GOP are more radical than they’ve been in decades. When Al Fonzi was chair, a lot of this activity didn’t happen. They weren’t as fervent in appeasing the fringe movements and conspiracy theories. But when Randall Jordan rose to power and prominence within the SLO County GOP, people started to see the conspiracy theories being pushed into mainstream public discourse (i.e. the conspiracy theory that the United Nations through ICLEI work with local liberal county supervisors to usurp personal and property rights). The GOP used people like Tom and Elsa Dawson to push a false narrative and see the kind the traction they got from it. After a while, that disinformation was funneled into COLAB’s newsletters and The Andy Caldwell Show.
After Trump lost his re-election bid, the SLO County GOP escalated their propaganda push by standing proudly behind the Big Lie and sharing content by conspiracy theorist/attorney Lin Wood, who has openly incited violence against the left while pushing The Big Lie. They’ve coordinated local “Stop the Steal” rallies that have taken place several times since the Trump campaign lost all their legal challenges to contest the election results.
In short, the SLO County GOP operates on fraud and deceit. To them, it’s not about political disagreement anymore. It’s about rewriting reality to adhere to their delusions. It’s about finding ways to “own the libs” or “piss off the libs.” They’ve become a party of unstable QAnon Internet trolls. Sad.
Hopefully new times or some other media outlet will step up and do the kind of investigative journalism readers expect and more importantly, the community needs when we have these violence promoting propagandists in our community spouting white supremacist Rants and ramping up hatred and potential violence against various ethnic groups. Who is Steve Edwards and why is so much horrible community dividing, hateful miss information being published under that name? Getting answers to those kind of questions is the kind of journalism our community could use now. What is happening with the local republican party is worthy of national attention. What they are doing is disgusting and anti-democratic and immoral. And theyre doing it with impunity right under the nose of the supposed liberal press that either doesnt care or is clueless or really doesnt know how to handle the situation in a professional journalistic manner of value to the readers. A challenge is being put forth to local journalists By the deplorable members of our local republican party. Todays extremist SLO County Democrats fundraise for criminal Tianna Arrata, support international socialism and communism, provide aid and comfort to dictators and tyrants, and seek to abolish democracy and our free enterprise system. Last summer their whacky leaders spent the summer recruiting low information voters to join the phony BLM movement, and we now know that the BLM movement is marxist in their orientation, and they themselves engage in anti-semitism and racial intolerance, good people do not support BLM or the Antifa Anarchist.
The far-left uses low information voters to further their flawed agenda, and working families on the Central Coast cannot afford their foolishness, the white elitist liberals use women and minorities as political pawns and, in reality, couldnt care less about their advancement or well being. Shamefully, local liberal politicians have used these willing dupes to advance an anti-family, and anti-prosperity agenda, and people like Heidi Harmon, Adam Hill, Caren Ray Rossum, Miriam Shah, Dawn Addis, Aaron Gomez and Bruce Gibson have all engaged in brainwashing barely educated younger voters to carry out their agenda. These local dupes will grow up and reject liberalism when they have to move out of their parents house, get a job, and start paying taxes!

I guess they cannot defend rooting for the terrorist group Hamas over a free and democratic Israel? I guess they cannot justify supporting attacks on the 2nd amendment while simultaneously supporting weak sentences for vicious gun criminals?

The Shredder- I sometimes (yet rarely) peruse his biased ramblings when I am bored and need a good laugh, thinking he is perhaps being 100% sarcastic, because of the ridiculousness of his opinions. The intolerance and triggered diatribes about anyone who isn’t “progressive” is frankly embarrassing. Besides the Trump Derangement Syndrome that inhabits his echo-chamber inhabited brain does worry me though, because I know even though he potentially has some serious mental health issues- Ultimately and sadly,I know that there are more people like him out there! Extremists on both sides of the fence alarm me. Democrats are not all bad, but their virtue signaling and hypocrisy- It does make me want to vomit!!!
