I am a lifelong Republican. I have developed a new reason to hate getting older. It means I will have only a few more opportunities to vote against all of the elected buffoons from the top down who voted for this “Big, Beautiful Bill” that will destroy our country. The only reason for anyone to support this bill is some perceived threat to themselves. The poor will suffer, and the deficit will cause the U.S. dollar to cease being the world currency. Our nation will slide back into a master-serf nation similar to the early years of England. Shame on all of you so called elected representatives of the people.

“…the deficit will cause the U.S. dollar to cease being the world currency.” This.
The solution to our perpetual deficit is to live within our means. This means immediately slashing defense spending by at least 80 percent and returning those funds to the American taxpayer in the form of shoring up FDRs New Deal programs and social safety net. Unfortunately, and until we have publicly financed elections, defense contractors and their lobbyists have a death grip on politicians through campaign contributions and force them to never cut defense spending. Average Americans with 401ks and pensions often have no idea where their money is invested and should we actually reduce defense spending, American’s retirement accounts will take a hit. We really only want change up until the point it actually costs money. If the author of this letter is so concerned about the state of the nation or corrupt politicians, dump all your shares of defense contractors. Otherwise, the author is just full of hot air. It would be interesting to know if they own their own home, are retired, or what their “net worth” is. Odds are they are doing quite well.
What we have is socialized costs and privatized benefits. That is to say, we, the public, give our hard earned tax money to these corporations every few years in the form of government bailouts, which is then simply given to shareholders in the form of dividends. Corporations don’t have to suffer risk. This needs to be reversed. The public needs bailouts at the cost of corporations.
Shareholders and the rich truly hate the public. We have no free or laissez-faire market. The government constantly interviews on behalf of corporations and AGAINST the public. I’m in my mid 50s, the older I get, the poorer I’ve gotten. Why? It certainly isn’t for trying. It is because the purchasing power has dropped from what Boomers enjoyed, where a dime felt like a dollar to where now a dollar feels like a dime. Why would anyone invest in the US? We manufacture nothing and run our economy like a casino, carnival, or three card Monty.
We are going to need public works programs like FDRs WPA very soon. If not, it’ll be pitchforks. Just look at LA recently. Foreign flags flying, the American flag burning, and total mayhem. Ethnic and class grievance are inflated by the media and consumers are unable to think critically having never been exposed to comparative literature or history. Without meaningful employment a public works programs can provide, the hoodlums dropping chunks of concrete on federal agents that we just witnessed, it’s just going to get worse. At present our economy is composed of nail salons, gyms, liquor stores, cannabis dispensaries, tire shops, and taco shops. These jobs do not provide living wages. Public employment through a public works program would.
The rich need to be taxed to pay for it all. If they don’t like it, they can just self-deport themselves to their yachts and sail away, never to return to OUR country. They don’t belong in the United States and their behavior and manipulation of society is un-American. History shows us what happens when a nation’s wealth gets concentrated into fewer and fewer hands. We are surrounded by verdant agriculture but no one can afford to eat because the elite have created huge monopolies and the purchasing power of the dollar has collapsed. It has literally collapsed ten percent in the last 6 months on top of its decades long decline. The dollar is basically toilet paper. Gold has become the world’s reserve currency now.
I’m poor and have a truckload of grievances, that does not however, justify the insanity in LA and whose participants are being courted by the Democratic party by means of identitarian rhetoric. The Democratic party is now a party of flag burners. Having done so, they’ve forced reasonable people out of it and to the other side and call those that do “racist” or “homophobic.” The Democratic party is like an abusive spouse who tells you they love you as they give you a black eye or knock out your teeth. At some point you just have to leave. It’s sick and I’d encourage any Democrat to forget your fears of what other people will think and leave the Democratic party ASAP. You can change your party affiliation here, it only takes a minute: https://registertovote.ca.gov/
Just as there are more conservative elements within the Democratic party, there are liberal elements within the Republican party. Join the Republican party and create a caucus. The Republican platform includes planks based on state’s rights, small government, and personal responsibility. As a Californian, yes, I want my state to create its own laws and not be dictated to by Washington. If you are pro choice, this should be music to your ears. If you are for marriage equality, this should be music to your ears and so forth. California is the fourth largest economy in the world, why shouldn’t our own rules and laws be respected?
If you are a conservative conservative, you can simply move to Alabama or exist peacefully with the rest of us freaks in California who don’t burn the flag, work hard, coexist with various religions, pay our taxes, and serve our country. I believe that would be called a “live and let live” philosophy, right? And for the record, overstaying your visa or crossing OUR border without permission is not the way you do it. If that is too much to ask, well, we got something for you.
Billionaires and corporations control both major political parties, the media and now even the judicial system. Third parties, even if supported by rogue oligarchs like Musk don’t stand a chance. It is possible to bring about change, albeit slowly, by getting involved at the local level. Choose carefully. If you believe compassion is a strength, public lands should remain public, all people deserve respect and dignity and hard-working citizens deserve adequate healthcare and living conditions, the choice is obvious. If you are deluded into thinking you can get in on the looting of America, or you want your particular religious values to be enforced on everyone, be careful what you wish for.
Steve:
“…get in on the looting…” What’s that supposed to mean? It’s clear America has been and is being looted. There really isn’t much left to steal, the only thing left is the printing press of dollars. It’s all been bipartisan. Neither party has clean hands nor would I expect either party to materially improve my life at this point. They are both completely beholden to corporate interests. Im a history major and former Democrat. I’m happy to run down the list of selling America out your party has engaged in, as well as my side. What Americans want is upward mobility and a hope that their lives and hard work were not in vain. I could care less about the “feel good” vibes you and your party put out. Show us the money, upward mobility is gone. FDR served four terms because he helped Americans survive when the private sector failed, as it has now. Do that, and we’ll all return. Intervene directly in the market and tax the rich and corporations. Stop indebting our country. We want a hand up, not a handout. If you can’t do that, at least denounce the flag burning your party tolerates.
Fly: Sure, I denounce them. Does deficating in the halls of Congress get your hackles up as much?
Steve:
“…compassion…respect…” These are all vibes, they don’t pay the rent. Americans are over that kind of rhetoric. What it appeals to are people like you, people who may have achieved a modicum of financial security. Let’s see how “compassionate” or “respectful” you are when you are behind on your mortgage or rent because your company declared bankruptcy or replaced you with AI. Lets see how “compassionate” you are when when your meagre paycheck lost ten percent of its purchasing power in the last six months (fact). Let’s see how “compassionate”:you remain when you are forced to take the bus because you can’t afford gas. Let’s see how “respectful” you are when you haven’t had a raise in God knows how long. The rhetoric of “compassion” and “respect” is why your party lost the election. Leave it for Oprah.
Show Americans the money, we’ve been strung along for decades by your party, yet here we are, on the verge of collapse. Where are well paying jobs? Why are we unable to produce 25 cent masks during a pandemic? Why are there two sets of rules, one for the rich and one for the rest of us? Why is our infrastructure crumbling? Why is a college education worthless?
Your party has been just as deep in the grift as the other one. How about the Clinton Foundation? Hillary’s $800k speaking fees? How about Bill Clinton’s “Welfare reform?” How about Joe Biden giving his coke-head son a retroactive pardon? What about all the sleaze at the DNC?
You aren’t fooling anyone with the wishes for “hope and change” “compassion” or “respect.” “Respect” is giving hard working American women and men everything they deserve, that is to say, a robust social safety net. We don’t need another battle ship, fighter jet, helicopter, or manufactured war. Get rid of NATO while you’re at it, stop bailing banks out and by extension the investor class and hedge funds, and finally, close overseas military bases and bring all our troops home. The empire is over, it’s time to focus on America.
Steve:
“Does defecating in the halls of Congress get your hackles up as much?”
Hard to say, wasn’t it in 2023 the (male) staffer of
Democratic Sen. Ben Cardin filmed himself engaging in a sexual act with another man while in a Senate hearing room?? [https://www.cnn.com/2023/12/16/politics/se…]
Bill Clinton did the same thing with Monica Lewinsky, right? Right?
Stay classy Democratic party, courting flag burners and bombing Russia. And you’re shocked you lost the election, lol.
