In addition to Catholicism and cultural identity, family and tradition are priorities in the Portuguese community, which will be on full display at the Portuguese Holy Spirit Society’s (PHSS) 115th annual Portuguese Festa on Saturday and Sunday, May 30 and 31, where Adelle Lima will be crowned senior queen.

“My oldest daughter is going to be the incoming senior queen this year,” 2026 PHSS Festa President Angela Lima said. “She’s [the] third generation to be senior queen for this organization. My mom was senior queen in 1971, and I was senior queen in 1994. The purpose of this Festa is for the Portuguese community to get together and honor Saint Isabella of Portugal. My family has been part of this organization since the early 1920s.”

On May 30 starting at 6 p.m., the festivities occur at Trinity Hall (6565 Edna Road, SLO), with food, music, and the presentation of the queens and their sidemaids. Adelle Lima’s sidemaids are Danielle Lima and Eve Fernandez. Daisy Almaguer is junior queen and her sidemaids are Allison Rodriguez, Ava Lima, and Teagan Knowlson.

Sunday begins with an 8 a.m. parade from Reis Mortuary (the corner of Nipomo and Dana Streets) to the Old SLO Mission for a 9 a.m. mass and coronation before returning to Trinity Hall. Learn more at trinityhallslo.com. Δ
