First of all, thank you and your paper, New Times, for covering the issue (“Going once…” Aug. 25) of land grab in California Valley in typical backhanded sleek corporate tradition. I, as a property owner, should have been informed ahead of time about the auctioning of the marketable so that we get the first shot at it or express our views pro or con.

However, like others, I read the whole details and the proceedings from your paper issued/posted Aug. 24.

We in the community feel that this “going once …” auctioneering land grab story—reminiscent of Third World land deal—should not be taken lightly.

As a footnote, I would like to remind all that so-called “uneconomical or worthless land” in California Valley is a farce and a misnomer. We can go on debating comparative land value issue forever. The fact that SunPower is investing millions here for profit is testimony to the value of this unique land. With adequate water supply, the land can produce almost anything, not to mention the value of the tranquil star-filled night sky!

Beauty and value is in the eyes of the beholder.
