Get ready, North County: the Hawaiian shirts and laidback style of Trader Joe’s are coming to your backyard.

It’s official: a new Trader Joe’s will be opening at Vineyard Dr. and Hwy. 101 in Templeton, according to a spokesperson at the company’s Monrovia headquarters. Located at the southwest corner of the interchange, the popular gourmet grocery chain’s new building has been designed with various “green features.

The announcement ends months of speculation about whether Trader Joe’s would choose Paso Robles or Atascadero for its North County location. Both cities had been hoping to cash in on sales tax revenues from the specialty grocery.

According to Len Lewis, author of The Trader Joe’s Adventure, Trader Joe’s produces $1,300 in sales per square foot, twice the industry average.
