More than 7 million Californians live within 1 mile of an oil or gas well.
Living near oil and gas wells is linked with an increased risk of cancer, asthma, and high-risk pregnancies.
Senate Bill 467, the “dangerous drilling bill,” was introduced into the California Legislature by Sens. Monique Limón (D-Santa Barbara) and Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco). SB 467 bans fracking, acid well stimulation, cyclic steam injection, steam flooding, and other extreme, highly polluting forms of extraction. These methods are currently used in Cat Canyon, endangering the Santa Maria Valley water basin on which more than 100,000 residents rely for drinking water.
California is one of the largest oil-producing states in the U.S., yet we have no regulations to protect us from drilling. SB 467 includes a 2,500-foot setback between operations and schools, churches, and community centers. The bill also provides a path for oil workers to transition into oil and gas well remediation jobs.

The amount of toxic, carcinogenic solvents injected into the ground in most oil drilling operations is astounding. This this goes for offshore oil drilling as well, where the toxic chemicals end up under the seafloor floor and in the ocean. This is an aspect of the oil industry rarely talked about. It is horrific.
Blight-turd #2 is whining again! Oil is good for jobs, the economy, and the environment. When are these eco-tards going to give up the whiny cry-baby narrative that”oil is dirty and bad”? Oil is a necessary commodity and is 99% or more a clean resource. Better than wind turbines turning condors into appetizers. Please shut up all aging hippie losers, your time is over, the “trip” is ending…Thank God!
Fossil fuel energy is as outmoded as relying on unprocessed cow manure to fuel a kitchen stove. It’s the 21st-century and it’s time to start acting like it and stop poisoning our water and air and our people. The turn away from fossil fuel technology will be rapidly increasing in the coming years now that industry leaders throughout the world have concluded that Investing in renewable energy is more economically viable in the long run. People throughout the world are recognizing this. It’s a terrible shame that we have so many backwards looking people who are causing the United States to be a laggard.
It’s a fact that every day the oil industry injects millions of gallons of extremely toxic carcinogenic liquids into the ground as part of typical oil Extraction processes. One nearby example: Guadalupe, where a layer of toxic solvent inches deep floats on the top of the underground water table, courtesy of the Union oil Company and at least 11,000,000 gallons of toxic solvent that it “leaked”. Oops! 🤭
