Cal Poly suspended a sorority for five months beginning Oct. 13 because of a hazing incident that resulted in a freshman student being taken to the hospital for alcohol poisoning.

According to a Cal Poly Student Life and Leadership press release, minors were allowed to consume alcohol at an Alpha Phi Sorority event on Sept. 28. The students were put in ā€œsituations where they were left to fend for themselves.ā€

Cal Poly has been especially watchful of Greek behavior since the death of Carson Starkey, a freshman who died Dec. 2, 2008, following a fraternity initiation ritual at which he was compelled to drink large quantities of alcohol.
