A handful of parents showed up to the Aug. 20 San Luis Coastal Unified School District board meeting to speak out against a vaccine bill that was recently introduced in the state Legislature, Senate Bill 276.
Nicole is one of those parents. She has two children who have both gone through the recommended vaccination schedules without any adverse side effects that she’s aware of.
“I was one of those people who had trust in doctors and did what, you know, I’m supposed to do,” she said.
Nicole said she didn’t question her doctors or the statewide regulations on vaccines until 2015 when SB 277 went into effect. The law eliminated the option for parents to claim personal belief exemptions for their children—an exemption from vaccinations if getting them contradicts the guardian’s religious or spiritual beliefs.
Now, with the introduction of SB 276—a bill that would prohibit an unvaccinated student from attending school unless their physician files an electronic statement and medical report into a statewide database—Nicole said it feels like the government is forcing her to get her kids vaccinated.
“So I started my research, and holy shit. What I learned, it just tore me apart,” she said.
Nicole has two major concerns (among many): the difficulty of using the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986 and the lack of routine testing for side effects of FDA-approved vaccines.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act of 1986 established the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program as a federal no-fault compensation system for individuals who may have been injured by certain vaccines. The act also established a program to direct vaccine research and development within the federal government; ensure the production of safe and effective vaccines; direct the distribution and use of vaccines; and coordinate government and nongovernment activities.
“So the pharmaceuticals have zero input, they have zero liability. It’s all on the government, and our tax dollars are paying for this program,” Nicole said. “They say it was set up so that it was an easy way to compensate parents, but in fact it’s extremely challenging.”
She feels that it’s morally wrong for the government to make parents vaccinate their children for illnesses that once were epidemics, such as polio. Nicole wants to know where the controlled studies are that look into the safety and effectiveness of these vaccines now.
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, vaccines go through many years of safety and effectiveness testing, including lab tests and clinical trials with volunteers who get vaccinated. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) looks at the results of the tests and decides whether to license the vaccine for use.
The Department of Health and Human Services also monitors a vaccine’s safety after it gets recommended to the FDA. Once vaccines are licensed, they are monitored for possible side effects.
There are several systems that track the safety of vaccines in the United States, including the Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS). VAERS is a national surveillance program run by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the FDA that detects early warning signs of possible safety issues with vaccines.
According to VAERS, it receives about 30,000 reports each year. Of those reports, about 85 to 90 percent of the reports describe mild side effects such as fever, arm soreness, and crying or mild irritability. The rest of the reports are classified as serious, resulting in permanent disability, hospitalization, life-threatening illness, or death. According to VAERS, “while these problems happen after vaccination, they are rarely caused by the vaccine.”
Danielle, who spoke to New Times after the Aug. 20 school board meeting, is a registered nurse. She said she’s witnessed the effects of different vaccines in patients and her own children.
She said her son was on the recommended vaccination schedule, but she would spread out the time between shots.
“He got the Prevnar vaccine [used to prevent pneumococcal disease], and when we got home he went limp and his eyes rolled to the back of his head. You could say he went to sleep, but I’ve seen kids have seizures before, and it was a mild seizure,” Danielle said.
Before that personal experience with her child, she said she saw both sides of the issue—why some parents don’t trust vaccines and the government’s strong influence on regulation as well as a doctor’s advice to recommend vaccination.
Danielle said she spoke during public comment at the school board meeting because she wanted to educate the board on SB 276, some of the questionable ingredients (traces of aluminum and mercury) in vaccines, and how these regulations will affect unvaccinated children in her community.
“It really is up to them to decide to kick out all these kids. We’re hoping to get their support,” she said.
Assistant Superintendant Kimberly McGrath told New Times that the district adheres to the law, so if SB 276 passes, “We are obligated to follow it.”Δ

Lack of respectable cyclists could be the issue
The NVICP was sold to Congress as a “no-fault” system to compensate families of vaccine-injured, but the process is not being administered in a “no-fault” manner. Parents must prove that the vaccine was the cause of their child’s injury or death and a panel of government paid judges will decide if they have met that very high bar. If not, their claim will be dismissed with no compensation. Another aspect of the NVICP that was sold to Congress in order to pass it into law was the requirement for ongoing safety studies to investigate why vaccine-injury is happening and to develop safer vaccines. A recent FOIA search found that in the 30+ years since the NVICP was signed into law, there has been NO ongoing safety studies to learn what is causing vaccine-injury, or how to make safer vaccines. There are several other statements in this article which are clearly designed to assuage parents fears about vaccines, but in reality, those statements are no basis in fact. Such as “permanent disability, hospitalization, life-threatening illness, or death. According to VAERS, while these problems happen after vaccination, they are rarely caused by the vaccine..” There is no evidence to support their claim that those serious adverse events are rarely caused by the vaccine. Since they occurred following vaccination, there is a temporal association. They are assuming it’s only coincidence. That’s not science.
Karen Garcia, you missed the mark and that is why I refused to speak to you that day. You are paid to push agenda instead of using your brain and it shows. You obviously didnt find in your research that vaccines ARENT being subjected to double-blind studies and regulation. You failed to point out that the new legislation in Sacramento will mean that children (who have doctors medical exemptions will lose them because politicians are interfering with doctor- patient relationships) will lose their right to decline vaccines that have injured or will injure them irreparably. You also didnt mention that the politicians and doctors pushing this legislation are being paid hundreds of thousands of dollars by Pharma.
Reporters like you are the reason no one trusts media, especially small town papers like New Times and the Tribune. I challenge the New Times, Tribune, and KSBY to bring on real writers who know how to report accurately and present both sides instead of acting as shills for Big Pharma and socialist brainwashing. Hell, Ill do it for free!
Shame on you for not doing your job. All you had to do was write a balanced article and instead you chose to take the words of concerned parents and contort the story into persuasive junk.

VAERS the vaccine adverse event reporting system which is how they track the adverse reactions to vaccines actually had HARVARD come to do a study on how many people were in deed reporting deaths and negative reactions to vaccines and HARVARD found that less than 1%!!! Of deaths and reactions were being reported. Do you even know what that means? The deaths and adverse reactions are actually much much worse than what we previously thought and were talking MILLIONS OF DEATHS MILLIONS of adverse reactions. Many of the mothers fighting this bill have vaccine injured children. They stuck to the schedule then their baby was harmed! Instead of saying good guy bad guy why dont we look at the bigger picture this is forcing a medical procedure without consent. That opens up the door to put government between the patients and their doctors. It doesnt mean anything to someone until they start aiming the mandates at adults. You think it wont happen to you but the problem is its already begun. And many of the safety studies are post market which means they dont do a safety study! They put it out on the market require you to get the shots then YOU ARE THE DATA! If that doesnt scare you then I envy your way of thinking!
OK, lets do the math. According to this article 10% of the 30,000 cases reported to VAERS are severe or fatal injuries due to vaccines. That equals 3,000 reported cases per year where a severe or fatal injury occurs. However, the Harvard study indicates that only 1% of adverse reactions are reported. So really that would make that 3000 number really look like 300,000. So if there are 300,000 severe reactions from vaccines it seems thats where the story is.
I am friends with people who are deeply affected by the noxious vaccines. There is a whole world of information out there once you decide to take your blindfold off, and it’s hard to believe something we see peddled to children and seniors is hurting and killing them in great numbers, and the deaths marked coincidence or not at all. Our kids are perfectly healthy, natural, smart, beautiful and amazing. They were born with an immune system that protects them from thousands of pathogens every day. Normal childhood illnesses like the measles are not very risky when your child isn’t deficient in vitamin a, and after having measles they will have natural lifelong immunity, and be protected against certain cancers in the future. Mother Nature has a way, or else none of us would be here. Where there is risk there must be choice. The choice to accept the big risks of an untested, liability free product that has an array of nasty ingredients including animal and human DNA fragments and retroviruses, along with neurotoxins and heavy metals which cross the blood brain barrier, must be decided by each person without coercion or defamation. We are the last stand between corporate greed and our children’s health, and we have more information than we know what to do with. We are advocating for freedom of religion, freedom of bodily autonomy, and for doctors to abide by the Hippocratic oath, to first do no harm. We are advocates of pharmaceutical giants and state lawmakers staying separate, because we know how much money they both stand to make if they can mandate their faulty products. Doctors are being pressured to forcibly vaccinate all kids with a one size fits all program, not bothering to take into account previous issues, family history, genetics and detoxification issues, or religious implications. When the govt wants to force harmful things on babies it starts to make you wonder-is there a reason they want them sick, dumbed down, or dead? Is there a nefarious agenda to lower the population? Look at the numbers we have now of kids with chronic illness, cancer, autism, ADHD, depression, anxiety, seizures, allergies, etc. Dig deeper, or try to. Google is now more censored than ever, I started doing research on this subject 10 years ago when I was first pregnant and haven’t stopped since. My kids aren’t harboring disease, they aren’t ADHD, not on the spectrum, no learning disabilities, and they are aware on this subject more than the average adult or even pediatrician! They research along with me! I am going to always choose a safer more natural approach to parenting and life, after witnessing the greed, side effects and absolutely racketeering aspect of western medicine-where they treat symptoms to hide the root cause and damnit if I don’t have a choice or freedom to choose! This is America-home of the free and we will never stop fighting for that freedom!!!!!
