SLO FIREFIGHTER ARRESTED

San Luis Obispo firefighter John Ryan Mason was arrested June 9 on suspicion of felony assault.

Before the arrest, New Times reported police were investigating Mason, identified in the story as Ryan Mason, after a June 4 fight at Pappy McGregor’s in SLO sent 32-year-old Jory Daniel Brigham to the hospital.

Police issued a news release on the arrest, stating an investigation revealed Mason was involved in a fight with Brigham, who was found on the bathroom floor with numerous face injuries.

“During the argument Mason struck Brigham multiple times in the face with his fist and elbow/forearm,” according to the news release. “Brigham was knocked unconscious and suffered multiple fractures to his jaw, nose and eye area. Mason did not suffer any injures during the incident.”

Before the arrest, Mason’s attorney, Chris Casciola, told New Times a witness would testify Mason “acted solely in self defense.”

Mason has been released from the SLO County jail on $50,000 bail.
