The fight for Cayucos-area viewsheds isn’t over. On Jan. 16, lawyer Michael Jencks confirmed that a notice of intent had been filed on behalf of the Santa Lucia Chapter of the Sierra Club as the opening salvo in a challenge against the Board of Supervisors’ December approval of a controversial viewshed measure. Supervisors Jerry Lenthall, Harry Ovitt, and Katcho Achadjian gave final approval to an ordinance on Dec. 4 to protect scenic viewsheds around Cayucos from development, though many locals criticized the decision at the time as being the least comprehensive of the options available.

The notice precedes the filing of a writ of mandate that the Sierra Club chapter hopes, among other things, will prevent any projects from moving forward under the ordinance as adopted.
