Sheriff’s investigators continued on Dec. 27 to probe a Christmas day shooting in Nipomo that sent a 33-year-old man to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the shoulder.

Watch Commander Sgt. Brian Haskell said “nothing has changed” since Byron Hightower was shot in what deputies have said was the conclusion of a domestic incident turned violent. No arrests have been made, Haskell explained, and the incident is currently considered a case of self-defense.

According to investigators, the shooting occurred on Dec. 25 at 3:40 p.m. Detectives were conducting additional interviews of persons who witnessed the gunplay, Haskell said.
