Pismo Beach is known for a lot of things—clams, kayaking, and fine beach fare. But, just steps from the beach, there’s another attraction with far less risk of getting sand in your shoes. For the first time ever, Pismo’s Seaside Gallery will be holding an all-abstract art exhibit, titled Expressive Abstractions.

Recently, the Seaside Gallery has evolved into a premiere destination for diverse and world-class artistic talent with its annual SLOPOKE Western Art Rodeo. Now, it’s expanding its horizons by featuring the abstract work of five Central Coast artists: Brenda Allsion, Jayne Behman, Pamela Benham, Jack N. Mohr, and Gayle Rappaport-Weiland. As is typically the case for abstract art, the styles, methods, and inspirations for these artists vary dramatically—from Allsion’s vivid and swirling textured patterns to Mohr’s elegant and understated lines. In addition to these five local artists, the exhibit will also feature the works of Atlanta-based painter Clara Blalock and Russian-born expressionist artist, Leon Oks.

Expressive Abstractions opens at Seaside Gallery in Pismo Beach on Nov. 1, with a reception from 1 to 5 p.m. The exhibit runs through Nov. 30. For more information, visit theseasidegallery.com or call 773-8057
