PINE RIDGE 2011 CHENIN BLANC AND VIOGNIER CALIFORNIA

Pine Ridge makes Chenin Blanc (for which they hold a high reputation) the base of this unusual blend; this vintage it’s 79 percent with 21 percent Viognier. The crew at Trader Joe’s in Arroyo Grande recommended it and it was worthy of their high praise. I loved the wonderful array of sweet, fruit flavors yet it’s fairly dry. Made without oak, it’s fermented cold to retain its refreshing fruit flavors. It tastes of freshly picked nectarines with flavors of ripe pear, pink grapefruit, and Meyer lemon with notes of honey and minerals. It’s quite delicious as an aperitif, and a natural with food. The winery suggests pairing it with Thai curry or a spicy tuna roll. I enjoyed it with lightly spiced Mexican food. Available at Trader Joe’s, it’s a great deal at $10.99 retail.
