I find it interesting that in your article about the Los Osos sewer (“Royal flush,” Feb. 24), many of the people you featured as the poor people who will not be able to stay in their homes because of the high cost are the same people who have contributed to the delays and increasing cost of the sewer. Anyone who has moved into this area within the last 25 years and still doesn’t know that a sewer was needed and mandated and would cost lots of money is living in La La Land. I particularly liked the quote from Julie Tacker about the undeveloped lots: “The 50 feet of pipe in front of the vacant lot, I get to pay for.”

I have owned an undeveloped lot for years, and I will be happy to pay my fair share of an assessment when I get a building permit and have some use of my property. I believe that the people who have delayed this project for so many years are the ones responsible for the increased costs of this project. Have they not noticed that water rates and sewer rates are going up everywhere? Why are they so special?
