The Central Coast State Parks Association (CCSPA) will screen the 75-minute documentary Out There: A National Parks Story at the Fremont Theater on Friday, May 23 (5 p.m.; $27.78 at prekindle.com). The film follows filmmaker Brendan Hall’s 10,000-mile road trip through the U.S. national parks with his childhood friend and tells the stories of the people they meet along the way.
According to CCSPA Executive Director Sierra Emrick, they’re screening the film “to inspire locals and visitors to connect with, respect, and protect our parks. San Luis Obispo’s open space agencies, including state, county, and city parks and recreation departments, as well as local nonprofits that manage and steward these lands, will be present at the theater. It is a beautiful film, and I encourage you to watch the trailer (centralcoastparks.org). The night will be much more than a film screening.”
From 5 to 6 p.m., guests will have the chance to “shop” park experiences, career opportunities, and get involved in supporting local parks thanks to the open space agencies in attendance. A discussion panel with the filmmaker and local park representatives follows. The evening also includes the film’s music composer Elizabeth P.W. and musician Dylan McKinstry performing live. Δ
