Three ideas to calm us down about guns

Atascadero

Here are a few commonsense measures to counter all the gun rights hysteria that I hear every day.

First, anyone buying a gun in this country should also be required to buy a high-quality gun lock at the time of purchase. This will improve the bottom line of gun shop owners and dealers.

Second, anyone buying a gun should be required to complete a gun safety course within 30 days of purchase. The states should fine those who don’t. This provision will be a boon to gun range owners.

Third, universal background checks when buying a gun; no exceptions.

Gun licensing by the states would create another huge bureaucracy like the DMV, and is unnecessary. The NRA needs to take a chill pill and acknowledge that with 300 million guns on the street, America is an armed camp. The American people will never obediently line up and surrender their guns to the government. The fear of gun confiscation is a hoot! No, millions of them would exercise their Second Amendment rights and start firing.
