I want to respond to two of your readers’ comments about how ignorant Republicans and conservatives are when it comes to acquiring and digesting knowledge and the issues of the day. For anyone who missed the Dec. 15 edition, let me bring you up to date.
In Ron Holt’s letter titled, “Political con artists are divisive,” we find, “Truth is often not simple. Many people who strain their capacity just to survive daily struggles [I assume he means working class rather than college-educated folks] seek simplicity in things like politics, philosophy, and religion [I imagine he’s echoing President Obama’s past comments about West Virginians clinging to their God and their guns].” He goes on with, “They do not want to spend the time necessary to truly comprehend complex truths.”
In David Delck’s letter titled, “Time for healing,” his take, “I think we have come to the root of the problem in American discourse: The conservatives are afraid of the truth. The best they can do is blow smoke, repeat lies, and hope that the less-informed are listening [Again, I assume he means working class rather than college-educated folks]. That is why they continue to prefer a less-educated electorate.”
As a conservative and someone who voted for and is thrilled with the prospect of a Trump presidency, I find these views fascinating for they confirm my sense that those on the left have their heads in the sand with regard to what’s coming: a long and disappointing period of ever-increasing rejection of progressive ideas and ideals in America. The days of political correctness
are over!
So, let me just say to Mr. Holt, Mr. Delck, and other like-minded folks … tighten your seat belt, for if you’re unhappy today with the “prospect” of a Trump presidency, it won’t be long before you’ll need to face the reality of it … for jobs, American power, and prosperity are coming soon. In the meantime, as you struggle to deal emotionally and intellectually with the forthcoming Trump administration, let me wish you a very Merry Christmas!
