Police misconduct needs to be exposed 

In response to Norm Adams’ Jan 13-20 letter (“Quit yer cop bashing�) and Patrick Hedges’ “tough job� (Jan. 27-Feb. 3):

Mr. Adams, it is fortunate that an ignorant, simple-minded individual such as yourself isn’t in law enforcement. I am sure that Patrick Hedges continues to cover up department flaws and covers for abusive and corrupt officers. Apparently the choice is to make excuses for, as opposed to correct, officers in order to save face. Politics!

I have witnessed firsthand the wrath of an out of control deputy and cocky cadet. I have interviewed over a dozen individuals who have been victims of misconduct, ranging from excessive force and civil rights violations to false reports and physical threats.

Unfortunately it’s the good cops, who are dedicated to enforcing the law and preserving peace, who suffer. It is their safety and the safety of citizens, whom law enforcement is sworn to protect, that is in jeopardy. Hopefully, the officers who understand and live by the code of conduct that they have sworn to will realize how important their good work is, and they will find a way to weed out the punks and the corrupt officers who create a hazard for citizens and officers alike.

No cop-bashing going on, nimrod … just an unfortunate scenario in which the good work and intentions of many must bear the tarnish of those whose personal shortcomings have resulted in an abuse of authority.
