The final Nov. 4 election results have been certified for SLO County. While some races were squeakers, results stayed the same as they appeared on voting day.

In the two tightest races, Morro Bay Mayor Janice Peters retained her seat, defending a challenge from businessman George Leage, by 47 votes.

In Paso Robles’ mayoral race, Duane Picanco defeated Gary Nemeth by just 41 votes.

Turnout was high, with 83.14 percent of registered voters casting ballots. That amounted to 134,061 voters in the county.

The county voted for Barack Obama over John McCain by 51.2 percent to 45.85 percent. On Proposition 8, to eliminate same-sex marriage rights, the county voted 51.04 percent to 48.96 percent in favor of the proposition.
