I have had the privilege to grow up here on the Central Coast, I am now raising my family here in SLO County, and I am very concerned with what is taking place in our communities. A massive 1-mile-long oil train could be carrying oil tanker cars coming through the hearts of our towns.

These oil tanker cars have leaked across thousands of miles, many times derailing and causing massive damage within up to a half mile of the surrounding area or in the worst case, 1-mile threat to humans, homes, schools, hospitals, and our state resources.

Our state and county do not have the money or resources to pay for such a potential disaster. These trains will lower property values while increasing diesel particulate matter, which does cause cancer, asthma, and other respiratory problems. Especially in children as their body and immune systems grow.

This risk affects thousands of homes and businesses. We should come together and put the people before profit.
