Gibson sheds Chevron allegations 

County planning commissioner and supervisor candidate Bruce Gibson released sales records Monday proving he discarded more than $24,000 in Chevron shares before voting on an agenda item involving the oil corporation.

Allegations of a potentially-actionable conflict of interest emerged after opponents learned Gibson voted to approve a Chevron cleanup at an abandoned tanker dock in Estero Bay during a Feb. 9 Planning Commission meeting. In a statement of economic interest, filed with the California Fair Political Practices Commission in March, Gibson disclosed owning more than $10,000 worth of Chevron stock during the 2005 filing period.

Gibson responded to callers on the Dave Congalton Show that he sold the Chevron stock and additional shares of Conoco-Phillips in January. That fact is now confirmed.

After coming out ahead of Judy Vick in a split primary vote, the progressive Gibson will face former Morro Bay mayor Rodger Anderson on Nov. 7 for the District 2 seat, held by Shirley Bianchi since 1998.
