KURQ New Rock 107.3 is conducting an unusual toy drive, Christmas for Teenagers, on Sunday Dec. 7 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event, hosted by Best Buy in San Luis Obispo, will feature onsite broadcasting the entire day; donors are automatically entered to win a drum set from Drum Sync worth more than $1,200. Best Buy will make it easy for donors by having a shelf at the entrance of the store filled with $20 presents for teenagers.

"Teenage kids tend to be left out when it comes to toy donations for the holidays," said BJ, the midday disc jockey for New Rock 107.3. "This is the perfect opportunity to get presents for those kids while having the chance to win a huge prize."...

Red Hot Pottery, that colorful place at the corner of Chorro and Palm streets in SLO, will host two events: a "ladies night out" jewelry party on Thursday, Dec. 4 and a special kids' day on Saturday, Dec. 6.

For $39, participants in the ladies night out will get all the supplies needed to make two 99.9-percent-pure silver jewelry necklaces or one necklace with a set of matching earrings. The fun starts at 7:30 p.m., including games, door prizes, and food.

The Exploration Station in Grover Beach will hold a Super Sitter class on Dec. 13, instructed by the American Red Cross.

Completion of the class will earn participants a Red Cross certificate in babysitting as well as the skills to be a qualified babysitter. The course covers such areas as interviewing for a job, diapering and feeding issues, bedtime needs, first aid and safety, and much more.

The class runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., costs $50, and requires participants to be at least 11 years old. Babysitter kits will be available for an additional $10, and participants must register in advance because the class size is limited. Registration must be completed by Dec. 10. The San Luis Obispo Public Health Department will provide free flu vaccinations on Thursday, Dec. 11 at Food 4 Less, 3985 South Higuera, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and for children only, ages 2 to 18 years, at the YMCA, 1020 Southwood, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. the same day.  Wear short sleeves.
