Ethan Momburg, General Manager

Mongo's Saloon 359 West Grand Avenue, Grover Beach

NEW TIMES: What is the history of Mongo’s?

MOMBURG: Well, Mongo’s opened about four years ago. Our owner Big Tom, as we like to call him, wanted to open a sports club and a restaurant. Our motto is “Great food, good times, and live music.”

NEW TIMES: What entertainment do you offer?

MOMBURG: Mongo’s itself is entertainment. We have a lot of great, crazy characters who run through this place, and we love to meet new people. They’ll get the chance to enjoy our great bar food as well as fresh local fish. Every day we have an extended happy “hour” from 3 to 7 p.m. and we have fantastic live bands on stage. We keep in mind that we have a strong NFL fan base in this area, so we will always have special events to cater for our football fans.

NEW TIMES: What about the card games?

MOMBURG: Actually, we do have a card room located next to us. It isn’t our business, but it’s attached to Mongo’s and we do serve our full menu to the local card sharks.

NEW TIMES: What’s scheduled for the summer?

MOMBURG: We’ll be bringing back our classic fish and chips and clam chowder. And we’ll be serving our all-you-can-eat Alaskan king crab special throughout the summer on Fridays and Saturdays from 4 to 9 p.m.
