Created by Courtney A. Kemp and Tani Marole, this series feels like a real ’80s throwback. I almost abandoned the first episode midway because the dialogue was so cheesy and melodramatic. It follows workaholic LAPD Robbery-Homicide Division Lt. Isaiah Stiles (Matthew Law), who’s haunted by the death of his brother, a fellow cop, and who’s at odds with his formerly criminal father, Amos “Nightmare” Stiles (Moe Irvin). Isaiah’s wife, Candace (Gabrielle Dennis), and teenage son, Noah (Cedric Joe), feel neglected.

Meanwhile, master thief Coltrane Wilder (Y’lan Noel) and his crew have been pulling off audacious heists, but Coltrane’s wife, Ebony (Cleopatra Coleman), wants out of the life even as Coltrane’s crew is pushing him to pull more jobs. Things heat up when Isaiah sets his sights on Coltrane and his crew, believing they were responsible for his brother’s death.
I’m glad I stuck with it, because this is highly stylized, gleefully fun entertainment. Sure, some of the dialogue is groan-inducing. A total of seven writers penned the various episodes, and four directors, including Mario Van Peebles, directed two episodes each. The filmmakers clearly believe Netflix will green-light a second season. They ended this one with an infuriating cliffhanger. (eight 56-to-63-min. episodes) ∆
