A 21-year-old man died at Bishop Peak on Aug 9. According to a SLO Police Department press release, witnesses say the man stepped backward off of a rock and fell approximately 50 feet onto rocks and brush.

Because of rough terrain and increasing darkness, it took rescue crews 30 minutes to reach the man. The man was loaded into a helicopter, and then taken to a waiting ambulance that took him to Sierra Vista. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

According to the press release, “preliminary information indicates alcohol may have been a factor in the accident.”
