Randall Jordan is correct when he writes that the millions of Americans (such as myself) who believe in government accountability and the protection of constitutional liberties deserve respect (“Republican Party of SLO responds to ‘eradicate MAGA’ remarks,” July 9).
However, MAGA is a white supremacist organization. It deserves no respect.
The election of Donald Trump has allowed white Christian nationalists to come out into the open. Unfortunately, by doing so they have revealed what I long suspected: The Republican Party is a front organization for white suprematists. They want our nation to be ruled by white Christian men and have no difficulty in abandoning their principles regarding “protection of constitutional liberties” when it suits their needs.
I applaud Mr. Fulks for his use of the word “eradicate.” We should eradicate MAGA, just like we should eradicate the KKK. These organizations are a pestilence and pose a serious threat to our democracy.
We can develop a “vaccine” against racism with a well-funded public education system that promotes the use of critical thinking.
If we look at who is spreading this disease, it’s easy to identify media outlets, such as Fox “News,” and perhaps local online propagandists, that actively spread white supremacist views and disinformation. If we could reduce the impact of those “superspreaders” by boycotting their advertisers, that would go a long way toward eradication.
Likewise, boycotting the businesses that actively support the authoritarian regime would weaken this virulent disease.
These sound like good strategies to me, ones that I hope Mr. Fulks and other Democrats will enthusiastically embrace.

Not one word about the economy.
Mr. McEwen may want to reconsider his call to eradicate Republicans. After all, they are the party most likely to contain the wealthy that he surely loathes, who pay over 80% of the taxes paid in this country, while the bottom half of the country pays no taxes at all. Without all the Republican taxes, there would be no “free stuff ” available for Mr. McEwan and his friends, which they require in order to survive, since they lack the ability to support themselves.
I have no idea if the claim that repubs pay 80% of taxes is true or not (and I’m not going to ask an AI to give me an answer since it will just hallucinate whatever it “thinks” will keep me engaged). But perhaps it is some self-selection that rich people who ostensibly pay more taxes gravitate to the GOP as that party’s main non-directly-racist goal is to reduce taxes, no?
Meanwhile, Greg, you’ve enjoyed “white privilege” your whole life as you mock the Republican party for being ,”racist.” Try being black for one day. Hypocrite.
Moe McEwen identifies the significant and dangerous elements that make up the MAGA base and drives its leaders. What is popularly known as Christian nationalism is at its core as polls have found. In this regard, however, a theological clarification is in order. Mainline denominations, most Catholic leaders, and a distinct minority of Evangelical leaders have condemned Christian nationalism as the heresy it actually is.
Since MAGA is primarily a white right wing political ideology veiled in a false and twisted understanding of historical Christianity, it is more accurate to characterize this recent upstart movement as nationalist christianism.
