Mysteries surround Mickey (Amanda Seyfried), a police patrolwoman who can’t seem to gain the respect of her male colleagues. Her sister is living with addiction and has proven uneasy to track down lately, her young son’s father is detached and unkind, and her boss doesn’t want to give her the time of day.

Mickey isn’t one to let things lie, especially when it comes to her sister. She knows Kacey (Ashleigh Cummings) got into a car with someone and hasn’t been seen since, she knows there is corruption in every corner of the Philadelphia Police Department, and she knows that Kacey’s story isn’t unique—in fact, there are two other women missing under suspicious circumstances.

This one takes off in many directions, and while the ending isn’t impossible to guess, it gives the audience a lot of what-ifs to explore. Seyfried does well as the scrappy detective, half ice queen and half dedicated dog with a bone. Mickey’s patrol area of Kensington is tough, but it’s the place and the people she knows best. If you like gritty crime like Mare of Eastown or Broadchurch, then the twisty turns of Long Bright River are sure to have you pressing play. (eight 50- to 53-min. episodes) Ī”
