It’s sad to hear that people like Miss Crockett still exist in the world (“Pass the bug spray, please,” Letters, March 24-31). In today’s depressed economy, the majority of the population is “one paycheck away from losing it all.” I pray to God that you are not one of those individuals.

The plight of the homeless will get worse before it gets better. The community has been helping for years, apparently without your help! Thanks to ex-Governor Reagan, mental health was shut down in the 1970s. Now people needing assistance are held for 72 hours, given a bottle of pills, and told, “Good luck.” Miss Kitty, I pray that your health insurance is paid up, and you don’t have to worry when you’re going to eat again.

Unfortunately, you are not aware of your surroundings. How would you cope if your family/friends lost everything and had to live on the streets due to circumstances beyond their control? Would you know where to turn or who would help you in your time of need?

Scientists have proven that cockroaches and rats would be the only survivors of a nuclear holocaust. These cockroaches you speak of are truly survivors.

P.S. I was hit by Hurricane Charlie and moved back to my home state hitchhiking with a sign.
