What happens when we die? That’s the central question of the When You Die Trilogy. Part 1 was scheduled to screen courtesy of Hospice SLO County at the Palm Theatre on Wednesday, Aug. 12. Dates and times for Parts 2 and 3 will be announced later.

“Parts 2 and 3 are still TBD as we want to gauge interest and attendance for Part 1 first,” Hospice SLO interim Executive Director Abe Lincoln explained via email.

In Part 1, viewers meet the documentary’s director, Johanna Lunn, who takes viewers “on a journey to discover if consciousness continues after death by exploring personal stories of near-death experiences, deathbed visions, scientific insights, and more,” according to press materials. “She speaks with leading clinicians and researchers who have spent their careers studying these experiences and the nature of consciousness. Their stories are revealed with humor and compassion.”

The film series is made possible thanks to the When You Die Project (whenyoudie.org).

It may sound macabre, but, organizers add, “Exploring what happens after death not only helps us decide how we want to be cared for at the end of life, but as it turns out, exploring death is surprisingly life-giving!” ∆
