The people of Grover Beach have done what possibly no other city in the country has done—successfully exercised their California constitutional right to participate in direct democracy. They have voiced how they want their community to grow and develop and took the time to sign petitions so voters can weigh in. Both their initiatives won in 2024.
In 2026 there are two citizen initiatives on the ballot. A yes vote on Measure A-26 allows voters to elect their city clerk, just as we do at the county level. A yes vote on Measure F-26 limits the 66-foot tall buildings to the 10 that are already built or in the works, thus protecting the scenic views throughout Grover Beach as mandated by California voters in the citizen initiative measure, the Coastal Act. Buildings that are to scale with the city will create the same successful affordable housing in smaller units as has already succeeded in Grover Beach while retaining the ambiance and coastal access that are Grover’s biggest assets.
