Robert E. Kennedy, president of Cal Poly from 1967 to 1979, died Christmas Day. He was 95.

Kennedy was the university’s seventh president and presided during some of the most difficult and interesting times in the school’s history. His tenure began just as campus uprisings against the Vietnam War were becoming the norm. During his term, he witnessed the school’s population grow from 8,000 to 16,000 students. A memorial for Kennedy will be held Jan. 15 at the San Luis United Methodist Church.
